So, this is L'abri, where I spent two and a half weeks studying gender issues ( womens role in the church historically, the effect of the fall on women, ect) some apologetics about relativism, and environmental issues ( stewardship) so I learned alot, and really love the poeple who were there. the routine was work half the day ( gardening, ironing, making meals) study half the day, and eat all the meals together
Susane came to new york with me after the term at L'abri ended so we hung out at night but mostly did our own thing in the afternoon,
heres a picnic by the harbor with my sister liz and her friend from ghana estelle. I've been able to meet alot of interesting people cause Liz has been taking me to parties with her. Saturday night we went to one on an entire floor of this trendy architecture firm that had roof access. Andrea and Alex Nyguen and Fernando were also in nyc so they came and it was really great to see them. Everyones left now so its just me, it can be a little lonely durring the day but yesterday i went to the met and today i'll go the the Guggenheim, i think I've done most of the typical things theres to do in nyc- i know it sounds snobby, but theres only so much time you can spend shopping and walkinbg around time square. anyways its really hot so I've been bumming around museums and galleries alot. tueday was parti ualrly hot so i ended up in washington square watching pople play chess and hanging out in the fountain
where i met a producer from NBC's today show. It bothers me that poeple who have so large of an audience waste it, perpetually, on stories about people who lost alot of weight or wrote some self help book.
Wednesday night i went to a party at the newyork boat house and met, i swear, the incarnation of James Bond. Magnus is a grad studnet at the JFK school of governemt at harvard university and is interning at the UN this summer in the de-armorment department. at dinner i sat next to this guy jeff who worked on the case of a guantanamo bay prisoner but before the court date his client commited suiceide( it was in the news a few weeks ago) his usual case load though is like casino and alcohal customers so he had alot of interesting things to say. on the way home we shared a cab with hana whos origanally from lebanon, the north eastern part of lebanon ( the christian area). he by no means simplified the situation or really took sides which suprised me- he says nothing is black or while though and its unfair to say Hezbollah is an entirely terrorist group. the IRA, for example, used to be a terrorist group but has successfully morphed to a political party. Its a blurry line in some cases.
I'm going Kayaking tonight, its hosted by the new york boat house who provides everything for free, so it'll be an adventure ( by this i mean i will embarrass myself, badly). I'll be here till sunday so if, by chance anyone's coming in let me know.
